Please see below a list of the most common questions customers ask. We hope that we have covered everything, however if you cannot find the answer you are looking for, then please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
You must be at least 21 years old and have a current and valid driver’s licence to rent one of our vehicles. An age surcharge of $10 per day applies to drivers 21-23 years old. Learner drivers are not permitted or insured to drive the rental cars at any time.
Yes. Provisional licence drivers ( Red & Green P ) that meet our age requirements listed above will be subject to a P plate surcharge of $10 per day.
Yes. International and most foreign drivers licences are accepted for rental car agreements, licence translation into English may be required for licence holders from some overseas / international travellers.
A driver’s licence with your current residential address on it. If you do not have your current address on your licence, please bring proof of your address with you. For international visitors, passport along with a current overseas / international drivers licence will be considered sufficient as a form of identification.
Payment is to be made at the commencement of the rental agreement, this can be done by either credit card or cash ( cash hire deposits are restricted to some selected older vehicle models only ). We charge a minimum $300 bond which is refunded at the end of the rental and must be paid by Mastercard/Visa card plus rental duration paid up in advance. This bond is refunded when the rental vehicle is returned in the same condition as it was when initially collected for hire from the company. We accept cash deposits of $500 for selected older model cars providing the hirer produces 2 items showing proof of a current local address.
Yes. The credit card holder must sign the credit card authority on the rental agreement and be listed as the main hirer. You may then be added as an additional driver of the vehicle.
Vehicle insurance is included on all hire agreements. Liability varies depending on whether you are involved in a multi vehicle accident (MVA) or a single vehicle accident (SVA).
A Single Vehicle Accident (SVA) is defined as:
Drivers aged between 21 - 23 years old the excess is the standard rate of $1500.
Single vehicle accidents ( SVA ) of any kind are subject to the full excess amount of $1500, plus any additional fees, charges and associated costs. ( towing, storage, recovery costs ). Accident damage to vehicles results in the forfeiture of any bond/deposit and any forward rental payments until the vehicle has returned from repairs unless other arrangements are made with the company.
Yes just the same as an insurance policy on your own personal vehicle, any criminal offence you commit or if your negligent driving causes an accident and you are charged with a driving offence, you will not be covered by insurance. If you are in breach the rental agreement insurance cover is voided. Breaches include but are not limited to:
Driving a rental car does not exempt you from the legislated requirements for road accidents. This includes providing your name, address, drivers licence number and contact details to any other drivers involved. You should ensure you get the same details from other parties involved. In the event of an accident, the hirer is liable for any damage up to the amount specified for the excess in the agreement irrespective of fault. In this context damage includes:
All accidents must be reported within 24 hours to All Bargain Car Rentals staff. A vehicle accident report must be lodged and insurance liability paid in full within 5 business days.
In the event of minor damage to the vehicle and no other driver is involved, we will work with you to achieve the fairest outcome for everyone. We will obtain a quote from our preferred repairer, plus lost rental days for the time the vehicle is off the road. If the car cost $300 and took 2 days to repair, you would pay $300 for the repair plus 2 days additional hire. If the repair cost is more than the excess option you chose at the time of renting the car, you only pay the excess amount. This is why we always recommend you take an excess reduction option as we take more of the risk when you do.
Our policy is that the insurance excess is taken and is held until the 3rd party claim is settled. When we recover from the third party, we will refund your excess payment. To expedite this happening, you need to ensure that you get all the other driver’s details and their insurance companies details.
Windows and tyres are not covered by insurance. If a puncture occurs or a window breaks while you have hired a vehicle from us, you will be responsible for repair costs.
A one day hire is a 24 hour period from the time of pick-up to the same time on the following day (subject to weekend opening hours). Late fees are charged at $10 per hour or a full day, whichever is the cheaper.
In the event that you may wish to extend your rental period, we are more than happy to accommodate your needs, providing:
In the event of a vehicle returning earlier than the original return date, refunds can be given. ( rates may then vary depending on duration of hire )
If your rental account is not settled or runs overdue, after seven (7) days we may need to pass your debt onto a collection agent. This will incur extra additional charges which will be passed onto you. Where a vehicle is not returned when due and no extension has been agreed to by us, the vehicle will be reported as being stolen. In the event of a default your debt will be listed on your credit file and will prevent you from obtaining finance in the future until the debt has been cleared with All Bargain Car Rentals.
Unfortunately we do not stock baby or booster seats.
It is required that at the end of each rental, the vehicle be returned with same amount of fuel that the vehicle left with. This is recorded on the agreement and is signed for by the hirer. It is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure the fuel level is the same as recorded on the agreement before leaving with the vehicle. Should the hirer not return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel that it was collected with, fuel charges will apply at $2.20 per litre.
We take pride in ensuring you rent a vehicle that has been cleaned and is regularly serviced by professional licensed vehicle testers. It’s expected that our vehicles are treated with respect whilst out on hire and returned in a condition which we consider reasonably clean. Cleaning charges appropriate to the duration of time required to professionally clean and detail the vehicle will apply if a vehicle is returned excessively dirty. Cleaning hourly rate $25 per hour.
No smoking is allowed in our rental vehicles. Deodorisation and cleaning charges will apply if vehicle is deemed to have been smoked in. ( refer to cleaning policy and charges above).
Commercial vehicle rentals come with 150 daily kilometre allowance. This amount is cumulative meaning if you take a Ute or Van for a week’s hire with 150kms per day free travel, you'll then have a total of 1,050 klms free travel included in your rental. Should your total kilometre usage be in excess of the free allowance, a charge of 25 cents per each additional kilometre will be incurred when you return the vehicle and settle your account.
Our 8 seater people mover vans have 200 daily kilometre allowance. All passenger vehicles include unlimited kilometres for Melbourne metropolitan use.
Some vehicles may travel beyond the Melbourne metropolitan boundary for a nominal daily fee.
Our hire cars are permitted for use within the Melbourne metropolitan area, this is approximately a 60 kilometre radius from the city centre.
Some of our vehicles are permitted for travel beyond the metropolitan Melbourne boundary. A small additional fee of between $10-$15 per day is charged for rural Victoria travel depending of vehicle type and rental duration, this charge covers insurance and roadside service for use outside the Melbourne metropolitan area of use perimeter.
Vehicles are not permitted for use outside the state of Victoria.
All speeding, parking, toll evasions and any other traffic infringements, incurred by the vehicle during your rental period, will be your responsibility. A $13.50 administration fee applies for each toll notice or fine that we have to make nominations for.
To pay for toll usage, All Bargain Car Rentals recommends that the hirer should purchase a Melbourne pass. A Melbourne pass covers you for travel on both CityLink and EastLink (tollways with no cash booths). You can buy a Melbourne pass up to midnight on the second day after your nominated day of travel at https://www.citylink.com.au or phone 13 26 29.
A once-off account opening fee will set up your Melbourne Pass and have it linked to your nominated credit card. Your credit card will be automatically debited with the tolls plus vehicle matching fee for each trip from the applicable toll road. A Melbourne Pass is valid for up to 30 days, from the time of your first trip on CityLink or EastLink, on your nominated Day; this time frame can also be extended.
On hiring a vehicle from All Bargain Car Rentals, you will be required to sign a rental agreement, this requires hirers to meet specific terms as specified on the agreement. Only those hirers who have signed the rental agreement and whose license has been verified by us are allowed to drive the vehicle. There is no charge for adding additional drivers to the rental contract. Anyone who drives the car without signing the contract will be uninsured and are at risk of heavy penalties if an accident occurs.
Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate after hours drop offs at our Bayswater office. The vehicle must be returned during our business hours. If you choose to drop off a vehicle outside of business hours it will be entirely at the hirers risk and the vehicle will not be considered returned until its been checked back in. Any damage that occurs to vehicles left after business hours will be at the expense of the hirer and subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the hire agreement.
